About Chapter 47:
Chapter 47 was written about a very nice young lady I met through work. She was employed with a client company. Our conversations began over the telephone when she called with questions on the software package my company had sold her company. She was very indignant at times. From the beginning, I knew there was something special about this young lady. She was a divorced, single mom, raising two children. If this wasn't a handful, she was also raising her sister's two children as her own. She is by far one of the most wonderful women I have ever met. Our conversations started out very innocently and were strictly business. Over time, I got to know and admire her and felt comfortable with opening the doors into my life with her. She did the same with me. It became evident very early on that we came from different worlds. Her world was more realistic than mine, filled with the everyday heartbreak's, disappointments and misgivings one encounters down the walk of life. Don't get me wrong, she is a very caring and wonderful human being who has found happiness in her daily struggles, but somewhere along the line, she lost all hope for her prince to appear. I was hoping that maybe I was her prince in shining armor. I wasn't trying to rescue her, only trying to share a little bit of her life with mine.
Our business calls began increasing in frequency, and on several occasions, I found myself daydreaming about her. Not long afterwards, I began calling her at home. It became a nightly ritual, which I looked forward too after a long, hard and stressful day.
She made me feel young again, hope again, dream again and fantasize. It wasn't long before she had told me her all about herself. I had not been so open and trusting as she. I actually found myself falling in love with a voice over the phone.
We exchanged pictures. I cannot know her feelings about me but when I received her pictures in the mail, my first thoughts were about what a pretty smile she had, but I couldn't help but notice what I believed was sadness in her eyes.
It wasn't long before I was looking for reasons to call her company. Our nightly phone conversations at home grew into exchanging emails several times during the course of the day. I am a subscriber to American Greetings Online and never had anyone to send cards regularly to. Let's just say I sent her more cards in a month than I had sent out the preceding five years. I think it was this type of exuberance, which finally brought her to grips with reality. There were several other things I did which were totally out of character for me. Something about this woman had gotten deep inside of me.
Our eventual meeting only confirmed that I had found myself a princess. Unfortunately, things beyond our control prevented us from ever discovering if the magic we had discovered over the telephone could blossom into something more than a close friendship.
The numerous comments and general good advice from family and friend's was all discarded and ignored by me. My heart was simply running amuck, and I was displaying behavior I hadn't seen in the likes of me in over 30 years. This is the effect this woman had over me.
I have one regret, which shall remain personal and private to me about this short-lived relationship that never was. In parting, I did tell her that if I am not the one that was meant to be with her, then I came to deliver a message. My message to her was simple, honest and to the point. "Don't ever give up your dream, it is possible to fall in love and live happily ever after. I know these things because I could have done so with you. Be Well."
